Linux Technology Preview Errata * StarOffice 5.2 StarOffice 5.2 does not run on the Linux Technology Preview due to a conflict with GLIBC 2.2. * KSaferPPP o When creating user accounts, you must set the firewall option to none. o When filling in the "Location" information, you must provide your area code, or the dialer will not function. * PCMCIA For best results, create a boot floppy and a PCMCIA floppy from the CD, as explained in the Installation Guide. Insert the boot floppy into drive A and turn on your system. Once the kernel has been loaded, replace the boot floppy with the PCMCIA floppy. The installer will mount the floppy drive, then indicate that is has skipped loading it. This is not the case, however; the floppy does get loaded. Once the mount is complete, the install probes for PCMCIA devices - if it locates your device and turn your networking lights on. Finally, insert the CD into the CDROM drive and the installation will proceed normally. * ATI Rage 128 Chipsets Systems using graphics cards using the ATI Rage 128 chipset need to use the VESA install mode because the 3.3.6 SVGA driver does not support this chipset properly. * Java Plugin Netscape 4.7 does not use the Java plugin unless it loads a page that uses the x-java applet tags. To test the plugin, load one of the following URLs: o file:/opt/java-1.3/demo/jfc/SwingSet2/SwingSet2Plugin.html o file:/opt/netscape/communicator/java/ControlPanel.html o http://softwarema.usec.sun.com/products/plugin/1.3/demos/applets.html * Lixardx 'lizardx', the Lizard X configuration utility, has not been updated to work with XFree86 4.x. * Setting up XFree86 XF86Setup does not work with XFree86 4.x. Instead, you must use 'xf86config'. In addition, the configuration file for version 4 is named XF86Config-4 and must be located in /etc/X11. The 3.3.6 fallback servers still use /etc/XF86Config. * SMP hardware If you encounter problems with SMP hardware (typically, the system hangs when probing the floppy drive), please try again by removing the "nosmp" and "noapic" parameters from the boot parameters. When booting from the CD, you can edit the boot parameters by selecting the line that begins "kernel =" and pressing the letter "e". Then delete the "nosmp" and "noapic" parameters. Finally, press Enter, then type "b" to boot the system. You will also need to make these changes on the installed system. To do so, edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and delete the "nosmp" and "noapic" parameters.
